Dearest Justin: Lawyer Up!

Back for one more Dearest Justin before another farewell address to mon premier ministre d'amour. In the latest missive sent to his office I encouraged him to find himself a good lawyer, and destroy the people who have hurt his family and his good name. As a wise man once said, "if you strike me down, I will become stronger than you will ever know."

The Little Prince

And when this little boy finally found happiness, what did we do?

We tore his wife to pieces for fun.

Just like we did his mother.

Beautiful prince, so young, so tragic, so fair of face.

Ride away, for we are unworthy of your presence and your grace.

But never let it be forgot
That once there was a spot
That was known as...

Take This Job and Shove It?

Is Justin Trudeau getting tired of the bullshit? Who knows, but I really couldn't blame him if he was. People smearing his mom even after she narrowly escaped a house fire. His wife and brother getting blasted in the vicious attack over a media-manufactured nontroversy. Griping backbenchers who don't know how good they have it. A media frenzy that has no interest in facts as long as they get bigly ratings and make themselves relevant.

If I were him I'd be wanting to leave stupid season behind and do something more satisfying with my life. What's the point of taking this relentless abuse by idiots who just want to grandstand for the cameras while he wants to address a goddam fucking pandemic. You know, literally life-or-death things that actually fucking matter to real people rather than this esoteric nonsense of angels dancing on the head of a pin. He wants to work hard but he's stymied by morons who want to play games.

Apparently I'm not alone in my thinking. It's the natural human instinct.

A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.

"I am leaving, I am leaving." But the fighter still remains.

Today's the big day to find out what's ahead for our champ. Maybe he'll pull the plug on this useless government and there'll be a surprise election. Or maybe he'll just cash in his chips and tell them all to go fuddle duddle. If anyone else wants to play idiot-wrangler to a crew of juvenile delinquents for the next five years, have at it, but be careful what you wish for.

Whatever he decides on, I see no reason why it should be a losing bet. Not for my King of Hearts.

Suffer the Children

There's an old saying that revenge is a dish best served cold. But the darker, unreported truth about Canada's bizarre Charitygate story seems to make it a dish tainted with food poisoning. Here's how Postmedia and Jesse Brown made Justin Trudeau collateral damage in their quest to take down the Kielburgers — or vice versa.

Maggie Said Knock You Out

It may not be gaining traction in the garbage-men pundit class, but word of mouth seems to be taking some major offense to the Benghazi star chamber's harsh treatment of Margaret Trudeau. Which is why #IStandWithTrudeau and believe he's going to go down fighting the good fight, whether or not it ends up being his last stand before the Bolivian army.

Grit 'n' Bear It

Some nice news out of Canada amid the maelstrom of irrational anger at mon premier ministre d'amour. (Which... might not be so bad... yet?)

Ryan Reynolds and a bunch of friendly Canadians (a lot friendlier than Charlie Anguish, Jesse Brownshirt, and Pee Pee Poilievre) helped a woman from British Columbia locate a stolen teddy bear that had a recording of her late mother's voice.

I suppose Justin Trudeau had to recuse himself from the bear hunt because Ryan Reynolds is his friend. 🙄

No matter. I made that one in the photo above at Zazzle last year, and I'm going to hug him and squeeze him and root, root, root for the Red Team. I'm also going to hug my mom, and I imagine Justin Trudeau is going to hug Margaret too. (At least remotely, if she's still self-isolating because y'know, pandemic.)

Je t'aime, True Heart Bear. Take note, hatemongers: you don't mess with Mama Bear.

I Guess I Spoke Too Soon

My wolfy boy really is in trouble. Some bad news on the polling front plus the Benghazi star chamber that's probably not going to end up changing too many minds in the unforgiving court of public opinion.

Per some earlier posts from last week I'm beginning to think it's probably better if he did go on his own terms rather than get forced out or humiliated by a rigged/stolen election.

Not that I won't miss him, of course. He'll say his piece on the record but I can't see him lasting all that much longer. Not when his own party has their hair standing on end and people are trying to kill him and eviscerate his family.

I had a thought last night. I fantasized that, what if he called Chrystia into his office, and she went in to find it empty, with just a note on the desk.

A note that said...

🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦

Dear Chrystia:

Someone is getting a promotion — and someone is taking a vacation!

I'll bet you know who the first someone is. That's you! The other someone, well, that's me.

I sorta wish it didn't have to come to this, but, hey, I tried this job, and I found that I kind of liked it, well, most of it anyway. Just not the bureaucratic red tape that gets in the way of doing all these big, important things that I really want to do.

But you're better at navigating all that stuff. Me, I like to colour outside the lines. I recognize, now, that it's not really feasible for me to do that. And I want us to continue doing the things we've been doing that the Conservatives would tear up on day one.

I really hope Canadians will give us that opportunity. But I know it won't be... all of us.

Not Bill, and... not me.

I believe they'll give it to you, though. Don't get me wrong, it's not going to be easy. It's still going to be an uphill battle, but in a different way than it was for me. See, as I'm sure you're aware, there are a lot of angry men in this country who won't give you a chance because they just won't listen to a woman. They're downright creepy, abusive, mean. Peter MacKay who called his girlfriend a dog on the House floor. Yves-Francois Blanchet who... well, I'm sure you're aware.

Men in the media. Men like Fife and Coyne and Lilley and... that Jesse Brown guy who I had never even heard of, not until he made my life a living hell and went after my mom as collateral damage just to get back at a couple of guys who sued his magazine into bankruptcy for telling lies about them.

Yeah. Men like that.

But what you don't have is that last name that throws people into a frenzy and causes them to grab at anything to force you out the door. People even get violent when they hear the name Trudeau. I don't know why, it's a very nice name, as my father said, it is a Quebec name, but it is a Canadian one also. Some folks in the States though, have written to tell me it sounds like the French Canadian translation of "Clinton." Which, I guess, kind of makes sense. All the stuff that's been written about me, about my mom, about Sophie, it all sounds so vaguely familiar, the stuff that was written about Bill and Hillary. I think it's called, a derangement syndrome. Which isn't really a term I like because of how it stigmatizes mental illness. A lot of this noise is just meanness. Not a medical condition. Meanness is a choice.

I want to warn you, not that you aren't aware: You'll get a lot of the same crap from men who hate strong women. What you won't get is that really, really heated rage that comes from people, men especially, but some mean girls too, who hate my family, who hate my last name, who think I'm some kind of prince in need of a comeuppance. You'll get criticized for having my back. You'll get bullied for your looks, your clothes, small human mistakes that we all make but that only Liberals are held to an extreme standard of perfection for. What you won't get, and why I think you'll do better at this, is an endless, dragged-out smear campaign for just being me.

And I'm sorry that people behave this way, and believe this way. I'm sorry that this is what happens to so many people in public life. But I know that you'll be able to handle it. That's why I approached you to come and run for office. I knew that you could help me build this party into something dynamic, something powerful, something that really reflects the future.

The future of the Liberal Party, Chrystia, the future of Canada, that future is female. And that future right now belongs to you.

I couldn't be prouder to pass this torch. I trust you, I believe in you, and I can't wait to see what you'll do and how you'll lead this country.

And, yeah, as for me, well, I mean, it's been a good run, more or less. I'm in Costa Rica right now! I brought mom, to get her some sunshine. Brian Pallister's house isn't all that far from where I'm staying, and, who knows, maybe I'll squat there for awhile, write my book, put it up on AirBnB. (Just kidding.)

I'm a free man, Chrystia. I get to take vacations and wear whatever clothes I want without running it by the principal's office or the public polling firms. I get to help people find jobs, help kids, which you and I both know was all I was trying to do. No good deed goes unpunished, isn't that the way it always is.

But you'll get to pick up where I left off, and I know you'll do a great job at it. You and me, we made a great team. Me being prime minister, taking out Stephen Harper, got Canada to where it needs to be. Now it's your turn to get this country where it needs to go.

I'm proud of you, Chrystia. Or should I say, Prime Minister Freeland. I'll be back soon. I can't wait to see what you do with the office.

Take care, mon ami.

Love, Justin

🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦

Love you right back, wolfy boy. I'm going to miss you. I'm so proud of you for standing your ground but I feel that this had to happen and could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. It's not even safe for you in Canada anymore.

Take this job and tell them to shove it. You'll be a free man. You'll be better off. You don't deserve this.

And I promise I'll come and find you, and tell you all about my family and the parallels between my story and yours, how happy you made this little miss Fuddle Duddle if only for a little while.

I love you, Justin Trudeau. I love you more than life itself.

What's Up, Doc?

Happy EIGHTIETH Birthday to Bugs Bunny!

Not even joking: I still have memorabilia from Bugs' big five-oh, from back in 1990 when I had a Bugs-themed sixth birthday party. A Brach's candy tin, a VHS cassette and a cute little snow globe with Birthday Bugs in a party hat eating cake and unwrapping a gift package.

So what's this got to do with Canada?

Well, nothing, really, save for that .gif where he saws off the U.S. instead of Florida. Which Canada is pretty much actually doing in real life, and all because Yosemite Drumpf the Covfeferate maroon fucked up Covid management so badly, along with his GOP goons in... you guessed it, Floriduh.

That, and... it looks like Justin Trudeau who can be pretty wascally himself might have managed to escape a sticky situation again. From someone in the know. Funny how both of them have a mutual enemy called FUD.

(chews carrots) "Eh, dat Skippy. He don't know me very well, do he?"

One Moment in Time

Justin Time.

I know I said I was done with this for the time being, but some new deets dropped today vindicating the government and we learn now that this is the big week for the star attractions. The K-bros tomorrow; JT and KT on Thursday. Then hopefully this flushes out after a few media and polling cycles because there is nothing new to say that hasn't been said already.

I'm frustrated to no end with Bill and Katie and think the Liberals need some new PR people ASAP. I honestly don't care what happens to the K-bros and their organization. All I care about right now is that Justin walks away from this mess cleared and proving his innocence. There will be partisan howling, but so far it's falling apart to be a lot of crying wolf.

And I don't want my wolf baby to cry.

But now that some new deets are rolling in, I will say I'm encouraged by what I see on some Reddit threads. (note that 120K+ people subscribe to r/CanadaPolitics)

Like on this thread about administrative fees that were later paid back.

I don't see anything nefarious or evil or criminal here other than the normal operations of government.

As for the PM being involved, it seems like it is pretty open and shut now.

No way anyone can accuse Trudeau of trying to benefit WE now after these revelations.

Also, I saw that there was a conflict of interest section in the WE deal. It appears like Trudeau may not be in a conflict after seeing that?

I don't believe a recusing is even necessary because of that?

I look forward to a comment on that.

Also, putting the money forward would simply be to operate the program and that was up to the public service.

Again, seeing all of this I see no issues and it proves it was to help students.

u/IvaGrey and I were getting along fine until I got banned for fighting too hard with other Redditors about this kerfuffle. He still has faith in Trudeau even though he votes Green.
I don't actually like WE Charity, and I think Bill Morneau really stepped in it with his free travel and should probably resign or be shuffled, but I still don't see evidence of the PM trying to act in a nefarious manner yet. He failed to recuse obviously, and that is a mistake that I suspect he will get a violation for, but so far that seems to be his only issue. Obviously he is testifying before the finance committee sometime this week so that could change if he reveals something else, but I'm not expecting him to.
That's because he knows the truth is on his side. And the truth is that there is literally no wrongdoing here besides failing to opt out of a Zoom call with the cabinet. (And a dire and overdue need to hire a compliance officer and some PR attack dogs ASAP.)

Prior to that, there's  the thread about the Bogus Reid polling, where there's quite a few gems, even some funny ones. With some surprising distaste for the Dippers' tactics here, including their (and Jesse's) disgusting smear campaign against Margaret Trudeau.

How people can say this is overblown is beyond me.

He was part of a meeting and decision he shouldn't have been part of. But the CPC and media are treating it like he is stealing money to line his own pockets and even the NDP are gung-ho to drag his mother through the mud.

In contrast, 19 per cent of 2019 New Democrat voters say the same [that the scandal rises to level of criminality], and six per cent of past Liberals.

I wonder how this relates to the polling reaction to Liberal scandals? When you see [Charlie] Angus at the forefront attacking hard, instead of it driving more polling for the NDP, instead it seems to drive voters from the Liberals to the CPC.

Where are the Liberal/NDP swing voters? Do they exist beyond "ABC"? Is it that most of these Liberal/NDP swingers have firm-enough support for the liberals that they reject or ignore the scandals?

Because after this move it seems like it's time for NDP to cut this shit out. I get *why* they're going after the liberals on scandals, but its impact on the Canadian electorate looks to be undermining their policy goals.

why are women more supportive of Trudeau

Have you not seen Justin's face?

Trudeau could frolic naked on the Parliament lawn and I still couldn't vote Conservative the way things are now.

Honestly, that might help lock down even more votes.

Mmmmm. Yes, I have seen Justin's face. I have 50 gigabytes on an external hard drive of nothing but Justin's face. I live in a U.S. solidly blue (Democratic) state. I'd fucking cast a write-in vote for Justin Trudeau on my presidential ballot (sorry Joe, but you're going to win here anyway) if he ran streaking on the Parliament lawn.

On a more serious note, the truth comes out. Save this one for posterity.
Jesse has a pretty big personal vendetta against WE and has been trying to bring them down for some time. The reason being was like 15 years ago a magazine Jesse worked for was sued for libel (or is it slander?) by WE (then Free the Children) and the settlement was so big that it bankrupted the magazine.

There are plenty of real, honest to goodness complaints to be made against the company, and I'd be willing to engage in some good intentioned questions. But Jesse and Canadaland's tactic of stretching some pretty ridiculous claims past the point of believability and mixing them with actual criticisms makes the whole thing look as you put it as throwing at the wall to see what sticks.

Moar plz

I'm happy to see Brown finally displaying his full colours for all to see on this, especially now as he's frequently retweeting Brian Lilley's questionable reporting on WE.

I haven't trusted Brown since he flew to Ezra Levant's defense for his false accusation that Ontario's Greater Essex County District School Board had issued a memo that supposedly said "teachers should be prepared to exempt Muslim students from Remembrance Day".

"They totally [expletive deleted] lied about it," Brown said. "They completely doctored the document after the fact."

This was false. He never issued a correction on the original podcast. Then a couple of months later he had Levant on Canadaland for an interview and kissed his ass almost the entire time.

Like Levant, he's interested in directing his grift towards whatever will pull in the most subscription dollars, and now he appears to be pivoting away from social justice issues to cater to the Rebel Media crowd.

You've got egg on your face, you big disgrace. Shouting "Trudeau Must Go" all over the place.

He will, he will rock you. 'Cause he's done his sentence but committed no crime.

See you next Thursday. And eventually? See you in court.

Godspeed Justin. Now once this is all said and done with, go call up Julian Porter and Mark Bourrie and sue these people's asses on behalf of your mama!!!

A Quick Update Before He's Gone

Remember last week I posted a teaser from the head cheerleader at Canada's Rasmussen, ARI?

Well, she's out with her new data (NB: ARI oversamples their own supporters in a self-selected panel).

This one here tweeted by our friend G.T. and annotated by yours truly bolsters the sentiment that this may be a blow but not a fatal one. That right there, is the big takeaway. Trudeau's approval ratings and whatnot don't matter worth a damn. He's a polarizing figure, no shit. So was his father. So was Harper. So was Chretien.

We also have some commentary from another Con-friendly pollster, a buried lede in an article from one of the Hill gossip rags about some cowardly MPs sniping behind Justin's back:

Darrell Bricker, CEO of Ipsos Public Affairs ... said that the good news for the Liberals is that when the next election happens, WE Charity will be one among many other issues that will be before Canadians as they decide which party they want to vote for, adding, “The thing that’s going to determine the outcome of the next election is probably how the coronavirus, particularly the economic recovery, is managed,” said Mr. Bricker.

“That’s what’s going to affect Canadians far more than anything that has to do with any of these ethical lapses or this particular scandal. So that offers them an opportunity to refocus people on things that are important and really matter to them in their day to day lives.”

Regardless of what the Conservatives and the media think, scandals, real or otherwise, do not have the staying power that they seem to believe they do.  Unless a scandal takes place during or immediately prior to an election they usually do not have a real impact on where voters place their X on the ballot paper.  No election will be held for at least another year.
And that last sentence presumes that Frenchie McRapeface and either MacToole or O'Kay don't persuade useful idiot Singh and his broke-ass campus tankie club into bringing down the government in September. Which would also work for the Liberals because anyone who caused an unnecessary election in the middle of a pandemic would get their asses crushed.

Note that polls are not predictive and campaigns still matter. The Liberals were on track for a majority last summer until Pepe le Pew surprised everyone in the debates. Now, Pepe le Frog has some pretty serious matters hanging over his own head that will definitely be brought up when the next debate rolls around. Right now, for our Justin, there's a definite wobble, thanks to the garbage media making so much hay of this. But, timing-wise, the Liberals might have actually found the sweet spot to air out their dirty laundry. An election now would see the opposition get destroyed. An election in a year, year-and-a-half, allows them some runway to climb back up.

Way to go, DipperCons. Looks like you blew your wad too early with another Benghazi smear campaign and overplayed your hand yet again.

See you in September. Have a merry Chrystia-mas, from the son of Lucky Pierre.

Manly Men Doing Manly Things

Welp, there you have it, folks. Canadian politics, as all politics, is for ugly people. Ugly men at that.

Three bald white guys on a panel ignoring two women and squeeing over how a pudgy Christofascist with a punchable face helped an accused rapist escape public scrutiny by focusing on a "scandal" that basically centres around the celebrity fabulousness of an incredibly handsome and happily married man with a divine head of hair.

I rest my fucking case.

This is Canada. This is the "root" of all these "scandals" and why they're covered so intensely by the media. The scandal is the wee wee-wee of garbage men who won't take anything but oui for an answer.

After seeing this I'm convinced that Justin Trudeau really should just resign this stupid job of leading such a small-minded country of small men with small minds and small, er, polls. He should instead move to L.A. where he can make millions of dollars doing threesome porn with Sophie and Stormy Daniels, because he is an anomaly from another planet who is too good for the losers back home.

Keep calm and carry a big hockey stick.

Just some quick musical thoughts on the brogressive hack and Ezra wannabe from Canadaland who clearly has a massive hate-on for both the WE Charity and Justin Trudeau. Apologies to Peter Noone, though I am also a hermit.

False Alarm Fire?

So a short while back, I went a bit, er, bananas bawling out over this latest foofaraw that le premier ministre d'amour has found himself in. But is it possible I fell all over myself a little too soon?

For Better or For Worse

Cursory glance at the Innerwebs over the latest foofaraw (I think I might like that word better than kerfuffle). If the hardcore junkies don't give a shit and even cons are panicky that the shit ain't sticking, maybe there's hope after all?

Red Serge, Yellow Journalism: Blinded By the White

I think I've figured out the blatant reason why Canada's crumbling institutions hate Justin Trudeau so much and why it just makes me love him even more. Let's just say it's as plain as the skin on their faces.

Weekend Coffee Talk July 11, 2020: The Kielburger Nothingburger

Concluding a week (and it's been a week!) of #ButHisWeMails content with some assorted thinkpieces hammering home the point that the inevitable negative outcome is guaranteed to be wrong. Why? The last one was, and this is even more weaksauce. It's low-energy loser fake news.

Can Trudeau beat Harper again?

About Me

My photo
Why, I know a fine fancy letter called FUDDLE. I use it in spelling Miss Fuddle-dee-Duddle. And, oh! What a bird-of-a-bird-of-a-bird-of! Her tail is the longest that’s ever been heard of.

I'm on Twitter now!

About (er, Aboot, eh)

The world needs more Canada. Especially the elephant in the bed. I'm an American observer peeking over the hedge, writing about Canadian politics and culture — including foreign relations with its nearest (and most unpredictable) neighbour — from my unlucky perch south of the 49th parallel.

Frequent Former (for now?) commenter at Wonkette (as the Girl Guide, resident south-of-the-border Trudeau stan) and as Jackie at Simon's blog.

Unapologetic supporter of the Liberal Party of Canada and Team Trudeau (aka the "Tru Grits"), and the Democratic Party USA. (Yes, unapologetic. I'll never say soory for that.)

Proud "Liberal Psycho," according to irascible Maclean's douchebag Stephen Maher, the other political white guy named Maher as annoying and abusive as Bill. Honoured to be a member of Jake Tapper's TruAnon.

I also write The Canadian Fishwrap Project, a media criticism blog. The #CdnMediaFailed, so I'mma keep calling 'em out.
